Overview
What are neurogenic communication disorders?
Neurogenic communication disorders are changes in speech, language, cognition, or motor planning that can happen after a neurological event or condition. These differences may affect how a person understands information, finds words, expresses ideas, plans speech movements, remembers details, organizes thoughts, or keeps up with conversation.
Support is tailored to the individual and may focus on practical communication needs at home, in the community, at work, or in important relationships. Therapy is grounded in functional outcomes, not just drills or isolated tasks.
Care may include support for aphasia, apraxia of speech, cognitive-communication challenges, attention and memory strategies, word-finding support, and improving confidence in everyday speaking situations.
